KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – James Madison swimming & diving closed out the first day of the four-day 2022-23 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships on Wednesday night at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.
The Dukes currently sit in third place at 255 points, trailing Liberty (256 points) and Queens (315 points). Behind the Dukes are UNC Asheville (183 points) and FGCU (151 points) to round out the top five of the 11-team field after day one.
Prelims
- Abby Maguire (4:54.82) and Angela Ritchie (4:55.53) placed third and sixth in the 500 Free to advance to the A Finals, while Riley Nugent (4:59.44) and Erin Jachym (4:59.99) secured 12th and 15th place finishes, respectively, to advance to the B Finals.
- Jess Pryne took the top spot in the 200 IM prelims, swimming a time of 2:00.33. Grace Bousum joins Pryne in the A Finals with a time of 2:02.55 to take sixth, becoming the seventh fastest individual in program history in the process.
- Five Dukes advanced to the finals in the 50 Free, with three etching either etching their name or improving their time in the record books. Jamie Cornwell is the lone Duke moving to the A Finals, swimming a time of 23.03 to be the sixth fastest individual in program history. Jordyn Schnell (23.19) and Alex Volk (23.28) are headed to the B Finals, remaining at eighth and tied for 10th, respectively, in the record books. Karen Siddoway will be in the C Finals after swimming a time of 23.52.
Finals
- The evening session on the first day began with the Dukes taking fourth in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Cameron Gring, Siddoway, Madison Cottrell and Schnell swam a time of 1:40.57, the fourth fastest time in program history.
- In the A Finals of the 500 Free, Ritchie (4:55.43) and Maguire (4:57.07) went five-six. Nugent took fourth in the B Finals with a time of 4:58.20 and was followed by Jachym in seventh with a time of 5:01.49.
- In the 200 IM, Pryne took bronze with a time of 2:01.11. Bousum finished fifth at 2:02.41 to remain in seventh in program history.
- Cornwell also medaled by taking the bronze in the 50 Free with an NCAA B-cut time of 22.65. Volk and Schnell went two-three in the B Finals with times of 23.00 and 23.06, respectively, and were joined by Park's time of 23.46. Siddoway took fifth in the C Finals with a time of 23.68.
