KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The quest for a sixth straight team conference title fell just short, as James Madison swimming & diving claimed second place at the 2022-23 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships on Saturday evening at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

Liberty took home its fifth straight CCSA title behind 1,441.5 points, edging out JMU (1,339) and Queens (1,119) in the 11-team field.

Finals
- The evening session began with Abby Maguire taking fourth in the 1650 Free with a time of 16:51.92. Nugent and Erin Jachym finished nine-ten with times of 17:04.44 and 17:05.38, respectively. Maguire's time makes her the seventh fastest individual in program history.
- Cornwell became the third fastest individual in program history in the 100 Free after taking the bronze with a time of 49.60. Schnell finished sixth with a time of 50.36. Volk (50.27) and Bousum (50.33) finished second and third in the B Finals, while Diehl (51.57) took third in the C Finals. Siddoway swam a time of 51.83 in the B Finals.
- In the 200 Back, Cottrell earned her second backstroke medal of the championships with a time of 1:57.49. Gring won the B Finals with a time of 1:59.60, with Aylmer (2:01.13), Drakopoulos (2:01.33) and Park (2:02.80) finishing fourth, fifth and eighth, respectively. Nugent finished third in the C Finals with a time of 2:01.99.
- Yager became the CCSA Champion on the 1-meter board, scoring the eighth highest score in program history with a 313.00. Hammar took fourth place with a score of 281.20, while Holloway finished seventh with a score of 263.95.
- To cap the night, the team of Schnell, Bousum, Volk and Cornwell set the program record in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:19.94 to win the bronze.

With JMU's second-place finish at the CCSA Championships, finishing ahead of eighth-place Old Dominion, the Dukes earn another point in the inaugural Towne Bank Royal Rivalry Challenge. JMU extended its lead over ODU to 10.5-2.5, having claimed a point in six straight matchups across all sports, dating back to mid-November.
