HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Head Coach
Tyson Thomas announced the hiring of
Grace Hashiguchi as the women's tennis program's new assistant coach.
Hashiguchi has heavy ties to the Commonwealth, having played collegiately both at Liberty and George Mason while serving as Mason's assistant coach during the 2022-23 season.
"I am incredibly excited to have Grace join our staff. She has a genuine passion for college tennis and the team building process," Thomas said. "She is going to play an invaluable role in this transition, and I can't wait for us to begin something special with this program and our student-athletes."
"I am beyond excited to join the JMU program!" Hashiguchi said. "I would like to thank Head Coach
Tyson Thomas for giving me this incredible opportunity. I can't wait to get on campus to start working with him and the team. Go Dukes!"
In her lone season coaching the Patriots, she helped the team to a 10-7 overall record. She coached a pair of student-athletes to All-Atlantic 10 honors, as Paige La was a First Team honoree while Taylor Garcia was voted Second Team.
Hashiguchi helped organize practice plans, led drills and planned team travel while also assisting the head coach with recruiting, visits and planning for prospective student-athletes.
As a player, Hashiguchi earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 singles honors at Mason in 2022, as she went 10-5 in dual matches at No. 2 singles and 9-5 in duals from the No. 1 doubles spot.
Prior to Mason, she played four seasons at Liberty, amassing 124 total wins with the Flames. Hashiguchi, a two-year team captain, was a 2018 Second Team All-Big South doubles awardee and earned All-State doubles honors in the same year. She was also a member of Liberty's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Hashiguchi graduated Magna Cum Laude from Liberty in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. She also earned her master's degree in sport and recreation studies from George Mason in 2023.
