HARRISONBURG, Va. – Louisiana took early control and claimed a trio of three-set singles matches to fend off James Madison, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon in Sun Belt Conference men's tennis action at Hillside Courts.
The Ragin' Cajuns improved to 10-8 on the year and 3-2 in league matches, while the Dukes fell for the sixth straight outing, dropping to 7-11 and 0-6.
JMU had strong showings from
Julian Lozano and
Esteve Agusti who both went 2-0 after teaming for a dominant doubles victory and capturing singles victories on courts two and three. It was the eighth straight singles win for Lozano.
Louisiana won the doubles point, taking two of three while winning three of its four singles matches in three sets. Two of those wins came by way of comeback, having been down as set on both courts one and six.

Doubles Play
- The Cajuns took early control with a 6-2 win on court two by Vasil Dimitrov and Leonard Tramolay over Youssef Sadek and Francisco Sinopoli.
- Moments later, Agusti and Lozano ran away with a 6-2 victory against Sacha Grandvincent and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez on court one
- Louisiana claimed the doubles point and 1-0 match lead on court three, via a 6-3 triumph for Oriol Fillat Gimenez and William Ribero versus Markus Giersiepen and Edson Sanchez.
Singles Play
- Fillat Giminez quickly doubled UL's lead to 2-0 with his 6-1, 6-1 victory against Sanchez on court five.
- On court four, the Louisiana lead grew to 3-0 after Samuel Kyjaci pulled away in the third set to down Giersiepen, 6-2, 6-7 (0), 6-2.
- JMU got on the board over on court two, as Lozano won a competitive bout with Ribero, 7-6 (4), 6-4. In both sets, Lozano had to overcome early deficits.
- The Cajuns clinched the match on court six, where Tramolay came back from a set down to defeat Harrison Lee, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. Tramolay led Lee 5-1 in the opening frame before the JMU freshman reeled off six straight games, which included staving off a match point while down 5-4.
- Agusti had a come-from-behind triumph on court three, as he held off Dimitrov by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. He triumphed in three sets with his parents on hand all the way from Girona, Spain.
- The final match showcased fireworks from start to finish. Sadek came back to take the opening set, but Sanchez Gonzalez cruised in the second forcing a third. Down 5-4 in the third and facing two match points, Sadek held strong to continue. He led 6-5 before falling 7-2 in a third-set tiebreak, falling on court one by scores of 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (2).

JMU returns to the court on Saturday, April 6 when it travels to Conway, S.C., to face Coastal Carolina. The match is set for a noon start.
