TEMPE, Az. – The James Madison women's tennis team was ranked sixth in the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division I Atlantic Region rankings, while one singles player and a doubles tandem were also in the top 20.

In singles,
Daria Munteanu finished the year ranking 16th in the Atlantic Region, while the duo of
Ines Oliveira and
Sophie Williams were ninth in the in the 10-team doubles rankings.

It's the first time in two years the Dukes finished inside the region's top 10, as it was fifth in 2023.

This is also the second straight year that Munteanu wrapped up the academic year with a #16 ranking while the doubles ranking is a first for the program since 2021 when a pair of tandems made the Atlantic's top 10. That was also the last year that JMU produced regional rankings as a team, in singles and in doubles.

JMU completed its gauntlet of a competitive 2025 spring schedule with a 10-13 overall record. The Dukes went 7-4 in Sun Belt Conference play, finished fifth in the league standings and advanced to the Sun Belt Championship semifinals for the second time in three seasons.

Munteanu completed the year with a 17-13 overall singles record, including an 8-10 mark in dual play. In the fall, Munteanu opened the year on a seven-match win streak and reached the round of 16 at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship. During the spring, she tallied a 4-6 record on court one while going 4-4 on court two to tie for the team lead with eight dual wins.

Oliveira and Williams ranked as high as #40 in the ITA national doubles rankings this spring after capturing a win on Jan. 12 against the former #1 team of Susanna Maltby and Carson Tanguilig of North Carolina. The duo also reached the round of 16 at the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship while going 8-11 overall as a doubles team.
