RICHMOND, Va. – Following a loss of the doubles point and straight-set defeats in four of six singles matches, James Madison women's tennis had its four-match win streak snapped at the hands of VCU in a tough 5-2 decision at the Thalhimer Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.
The loss dropped the Dukes to 10-7 in duals, while VCU improved to 12-4.
The Rams started the afternoon quickly, claiming the doubles point following a 6-0 win on Court 1 and a 6-4 triumph on Court 3, to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
VCU poured it on in singles, winning on Courts 1, 4 and 5 in straight-sets, conceding just 12 games to earn match point at 4-0.
With the match decided, freshman
Amanda Nord battled past Sofia Sualehe after dropping the opening set 6-0, winning the second 6-2 and the third 6-3 to earn her seventh consecutive victory of the spring, upping her dual record to 8-2 and her overall mark to 15-2.
Following Nord, senior
Abby Amos played to a third-set super-tiebreak for the third time in four matches. After falling 6-4 in the first set, Amos rolled to a 6-3 win in the second, before winning a back-and-forth super-tiebreak (10-8) over Anna Rasmussen for her 10th win of the dual season.
At No. 3, freshman
Daniela Voloh fell in a hard-fought (6-3, 7-6(5)) match to VCU's Marina Bakkari to close the afternoon and the 5-2 result.

The Dukes return home next weekend for CAA matchups with the College of Charleston on Saturday and three-time defending CAA Champions William & Mary for senior day on Sunday. First serve is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday vs. Charleston and for noon on Sunday vs W&M.
