LEXINGTON, Va. – James Madison track & field began action at the VMI Winter Relays on Friday with multiple personal records and top-three finishers.

Just one week after setting their personal record in the pentathlon, sophomores
Bethany Biggi and
Erin Babashak improved their scores by tallying 3,246 and 3,112 points, respectively. Biggi's total landed her in third place while Babshak secured fifth out of seven competitors.

Biggi set three personal records en route to her overall best score of her career in the 60m hurdles (9.72 seconds), shot put (9.71m) and long jump (4.97 meters). In the final event, Biggi placed first in the 800m race with a time of 2:29.79, which was six seconds faster than second place.

Babashak set her personal record in the shot put, launching a distance of 8.64 meters. Junior
Lauren Smith qualified for the finals in the 60m race after finishing second in her heat with a time of 8.12 seconds.

To wrap up the day, sophomore
Shelby Staib matched her personal best in the triple with a leap of 11.20m to land in third place out of seven jumpers.
