HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison Director of Athletics
Jeff Bourne announced Monday that Chereé Hicks has departed following four years serving as track and field head coach.
Â
Bourne said, "We are grateful to Chereé for her contributions as track and field head coach at James Madison, for her investment in our student-athletes and her commitment to the culture of our department."
Â
Hicks assumed the position of head coach at JMU prior to the 2014-15 season. Over the course of her four seasons, the Dukes finished third, second, third and sixth at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships.
Â
"I am appreciative for the opportunity to have been a part of the James Madison University community," Hicks said. "I've been fortunate to have gotten to know some great people through this experience. I wish nothing but the best for the program and am looking forward to the next challenge."
Â
With direct oversight of the throwing events, Hicks' tenure was highlighted by Amber Monroe compiling one of the best individual campaigns by a thrower in program history. Monroe broke school records in the indoor and outdoor shot put as well as the discus and earned All-America status in 2016.
Â
James Madison will immediately commence a national search for a new track and field head coach.
