MOBILE, Ala. – James Madison concluded the first day of competition at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Thursday night at the Jaguar Track, with five Dukes recording personal bests and two moving on to the finals in their respective events.

Through four of 21 events scored, Texas State leads the way with 41 points, followed by Louisiana (32), and South Alabama (31). JMU currently sits in 13th alongside Troy with two more days of competition remaining.

Sky Bleu Tyson notched a PR of 1:00.04 in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing fifth overall in the prelims to move on to Saturday's finals. Additionally, her time preserves her fourth-place spot in program history in the event. In the 1,500 meters,
Carol-Anne Garrett registered a personal-best time of 4:38.05 to advance to Saturday's championship race, while
Sidney Walters finished closely behind with a PR of 4:39.06. The Dukes finished the first day with the 10,000 meters, as
Elizabeth Scarpa improved her time to 37:55.28 for 12th place.

Peyton Mermon wrapped up her freshman campaign with a career-best throw of 38.89m (127-7) in the javelin for 13th – maintaining her No. 7 spot in the JMU record book in the event.
