Track & Field and Cross Country Add Five to 2022-23 Roster

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The James Madison track and field and cross country program has added five newcomers to the 2022-23 roster, as announced by Head Coach of Track and Field Ron McCown.

Joining the Dukes in Harrisonburg this fall are Jenna Callan, Gracen King, Caroline Morley, Jorja Rich and Addison Shorter.

"These five athletes, all from Virginia, bring more depth and quality to our roster," commented McCown. "It's always great to have in-state talent joining our team. These additions bring more talent to our jumps, multi's and distance event groups. We are excited to have these five joining our team. Go Dukes!"

Jenna Callan | Sprints/Jumps | Ashburn, Va. | Stone Bridge High School
Career Highlights: 2x district champion in the long jump (both indoor and outdoor)... 2x regional champion in the long jump (both indoor and outdoor)... Finished second at the indoor state championship meet in the long jump her senior year… Ranked top-five in Virginia for the long jump in 2022… Broke the school record for the high jump (1.62m)... 55m regional champion her sophomore year… Finished third in the 300m at regionals her freshman year.

Gracen King | Multis | Fredericksburg, Va. | Massaponax High School
Career Highlights: Indoor and outdoor district champion in the high jump her senior year… 2022 outdoor high jump regional champion… 2022 All-State honoree… 2021 All-District Honorable Mention… Track MVP her freshman year at Foxcroft… Also played volleyball and broke the school record for number of assists in one set.

Caroline Morley | Distance | Richmond, Va. | James River High School
Career Highlights: Won Fastest 5K of the Year Award her senior year… Qualified for 2021 Class 6 Cross Country States… Qualified for 2021-22 Class 6 Indoor States in both the 1600m and 3200m… Won the 1600m in Class 6 Region A her senior year… Qualified for outdoor states in both the 800m and 1600m in 2022… Was the regional runner up in the 800m her senior year… Qualified for New Balance Nationals in the 1600m and 3200m her senior year… Captain of the cross country, indoor and outdoor track teams at Lloyd C. Bird High School her junior year… Qualified for the 2020-21 Class 5 Indoor State Championships in the 1000m and 1600m, where she finished fifth in both… Placed fifth in the 1600m at the 2021 outdoor state meet… 2021 First Team All-Metro for the outdoor 1600m… Won Most Improved Award for indoor track her sophomore year.

Jorja Rich | Jumps | Leesburg, Va. | Woodgrove High School
Career Highlights: 2x Most Valuable Player for indoor track & field… 2022 high jump district champion… Third place in the triple jump at the 2022 indoor district meet… qualified for 2022 indoor regionals in the long jump, triple jump and high jump but was unable to compete due to injury… Runner-up in the high jump at the indoor state meet her junior year… 2x indoor high jump regional champion… Named the outdoor track & field Most Valuable Player her junior year… Earned All-State honors for the indoor high jump her junior season… Outdoor high jump runner-up at the regional meet her freshman season… Was also a gymnast at Woodgrove High School, where she was a Virginia State Champion in the floor exercise her freshman year.

Addison Shorter | Distance | Wirtz, Va. | Franklin County High School
Career Highlights: Cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field captain sophomore through senior year… 4x All-District runner for cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field… 2022 outdoor 3200m district champion… 2x runner-up at the 6A Virginia High School League cross country meet… District champion in the outdoor mile her senior year… Outdoor 3200m regional champion at the 2021 6A Virginia High School League meet… Set the school record in the 3200m with her time of 11:21.14… Indoor 6B regional champion in the 1000m.
