RALEIGH, N.C. – James Madison track & field saw
Miranda Stanhope set the program record in the 10,000-meter competition Friday night at the Raleigh Relays on Paul H. Derr Track.
Â
Stanhope clocked in at 33:53.09 in the 10,000-meter invitational, passing
Shannon Saunders' 33:54.56 effort from 2005. Coming into the meet, the junior's personal best in the event was 34:22.41 – set at the Raleigh Relays in 2022. That time punched her ticket to the NCAA East Preliminary Championships as the 44th-fastest in the region.
Sophomore
Katherine Lawson competed in the 10K later in the night, crossing the finish line in 34:06.21 – good for No. 3 in the JMU record book. For Lawson, this was her first collegiate 10,000-meter race. Stanhope and Lawson's performances in the 10,000-meter race are third and fourth in the Sun Belt Conference, respectively.
