VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – James Madison track & field won nine event titles – seven on the track and two in the field – on Friday afternoon inside the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Freshman
Kylie Brooks recorded a time of 5:04.51 for first in the mile, the fastest time for a Duke in the event so far this season.
Holly Mpassy ran a Sun Belt-leading 55.20 in her 400-meter dash victory, while freshman
Merrick Mock clocked in at 2:18.28 for a win in her first collegiate 800-meter race.
How It Happened
Track
- The Dukes went 1-2-4 in the 5,000-meter race, paced by Faithe Ketchum in 18:33.03, followed by Faith Ford (19:03.50) and Elizabeth Rainey (19:47.89).
- In the 60-meter hurdles, Jordyn Henderson took gold (8.54), while Kam'Dyn Thomas finished runner-up (8.95).
- Kaia Putman ran a season-best 7.62 in the 60-meter dash for second, followed by a third-place effort from Kyndal Turner (7.72).
- Putman returned to win the 200-meter dash in a season-best 24.69, with Faith Fuqua coming in second (25.37).
- Kristin Giordano earned bronze in the mile with a career-best time of 5:18.35.
- In the 800-meter race, Alayna Gifford produced a season-best time of 2:19.57 for third.
- JMU's 'A' team of Darian Harris, Esther Saint-Germain, Fuqua and Mpassy took home first in 3:54.94 in the 4x400-meter relay. Mpassy recorded a split of 55.42 on the anchor leg.
Field
- Jaiden Martellucci threw a season-best weight throw of 15.23 (49-11.75) for gold.
- The Dukes went 1-2 in the pole vault, led by Erica Moolman with a jump of 3.63m (11-10.75), followed by Elizabeth Michael in 3.18m (10-5.25).
- Freshman Madison Greene leaped 11.13m (36-6.25) to finish runner-up in the triple jump.
- Freshman Violet Evans recorded a personal-best high jump of 1.58m (5-2.25) for third.
- Ryann Bennett finished fourth in the shot put in 12.34m (40-6).
