PRINCETON, N.J, May 18, 2014 – Freshman Morgan Crewe (Emporia, Va./Greensville County) broke a 24-year old school record in the high jump to highlight a strong finish by James Madison track & field Sunday at the ECAC Championships.
Crewe cleared 1.76 meters (5-09.25) to finish fifth out of 31 jumpers. The previous JMU record was 1.74 meters (5-08.5) set by Danielle Legendre in 1990. In just her first season with the Dukes, Crewe now owns the outdoor high jump record and has the program's second-best indoor height in the event.
With her performance Sunday, Crewe qualified for the 2014 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, to be held in Eugene, Oregon on July 5-6. She will be joined by freshman Ebony Owusu-Sampah (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton), who qualified in the long jump
Senior Kristen Greene (Colonial Heights, Va./Thomas Dale) also moved her way up the JMU record book, taking over the third spot in the shot put. She finished 14th with a toss of 13.49 meters.
JMU's 4x800 relay team, which qualified for the finals with a fourth-place finish in the preliminaries on Saturday, improved on its time and took sixth out of 24 teams, crossing the line in 8:54.64.
