Amber Monroe placed 14th in the women's shot put at the 2016 USATF Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Oregon Convention Center on Friday evening.
Monroe, who was one of only two collegians competing in the event, put up a best mark of 15.89 meters (52-1 3/4) on the night. Michelle Carter, an affiliate of Nike/N Y A C, won the event with a throw of 19.49 meters.
"It was certainly a good learning experience for Amber and will help her reach her goals going forward," said head coach Cheree Hicks. "She had a great indoor season, but now it's time to start looking forward to a great outdoor season as well."
The competition concludes James Madison's 2016 indoor track season, but the team will get right back to work as the 2016 outdoor season begins on Saturday, March 19 with the Virginia Cup in Charlottesville, Va.
Monroe was exceptional in her first season with the Dukes, breaking the program's indoor shot put record four times over with a final mark of 16.46 meters at the Ohio State-hosted Buckeye Tune-up.
