BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman
Nikki Serratore kicked off the 2016 ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships with an 11th-place finish in the pentathlon at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center on Friday evening.
The pentathlon, which consists of five events - the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800-meter run - ran from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday with student-athletes from up and down the East Coast who earned a place in the competition during this year's indoor season.
Serratore made a good showing in each event, finishing with a total score of 3,233. The afternoon began with the 60-meter hurdles in which she ran a 9.63 before jumping 1.48 meters in the high jump, just .02 meters off of her season best of 1.50 meters. The Lansdale, Pa. native then threw a 9.99-meter shot put, leapt 5.09 meters in the long jump and completed the event with a 2:26.49 in the 800-meter run.
Liberty's Erika Jackson won the event, scoring a total of 3,706 points to start the weekend strong.
The rest of the Dukes in Boston will join the competition tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 5, for the first full day with ECAC events beginning at 3 p.m.
