PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - An Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) qualifying mark in the 4x100-meter relay highlighted the first day of the 2016 Penn Relays for the James Madison track & field team at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field on Friday.Â
Coming off of a strong showing at the JMU Invitational in which they recorded the third-fastest time in program history, the Dukes deployed sophomore
Aereale Scott, junior
Kennedy King, junior
Annie Johnson and freshman
Meredith Willis in the 4x100 once again. The quartet placed 29th out of 86 teams with a time of 47.39 seconds, surpassing the required ECAC qualifying time of 48.01.
King also competed in the long jump, where she placed eighth out of 46 athletes with a distance of 5.62 meters (18'5.25").
Sophomores
Charlie Bell and
Tyrah Burrows then teamed up with juniors
Summer Walter and
Abby Duncan to battle tough competition and rainy weather conditions to place 40th out of 81 teams with a time of 3:55.49 in the 4x400-meter relay.
JMU returns to competition at the Penn Relays tomorrow with the 4x200-meter relay and sprint medley relay, scheduled for 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively. Throwers

Dominique Johnson also get back in action tomorrow with the 2016 Jopson Invitational, hosted by Bridgewater College.
