LYNCHBURG, Va. – The James Madison track & field team completed a successful day at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex on Saturday, including three new ECAC-qualifying times.
Senior
Annie Johnson led the way, qualifying for the ECAC Championships in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.94 seconds. The second-place finish is the 10th-best time in JMU history.
Sophomore
Meredith Willis qualified for the ECAC Championships in the 100-meter dash with a first-place finish and a time of 12.00 seconds. She picked up a second event win in the 200-meter dash, placing first with a wind-aided time of 23.92 seconds.
Senior
Summer Walter rounded out the Dukes' ECAC qualifiers with a mark of 14.50 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, good for a third-place finish.
Senior
Kennedy King added to JMU's event wins, taking first in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.96 meters (19'6.75").
While the sprinters and jumpers competed in Lynchburg, the distance runners competed at the Mason Spring Invitational in Fairfax, Va. The Dukes were led by junior
Nora Raher who took 12th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:35.10.
SERRATORE SURGES IN HEPTATHLON
After finishing the first day of competition in ninth place, sophomore
Nicolette Serratore stormed back to finish in second place in the heptathlon with 4,444 points. Her Saturday performance was highlighted by winning the javelin throw with a mark of 40.40 meters (132'6").
PERSONAL AND SEASON BESTS
Junior
Gina Bischof placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a season-best time of 1:05.31. Sophomore
Kelly Oler recorded a personal record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.41, while junior
Angelique DeMeo (18:18.83) and sophomore
Nicole Harrison (18:46.78) both posted personal bests in the 5,000-meter run.
