INDIANAPOLIS – Shelby Staib of James Madison track & field will make the trip to compete in the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Round as announced by the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee.

The NCAA East Preliminaries are set to take place in Jacksonville, Fla., hosted by the University of North Florida from May 26-29. The meet will consist of the top 48 athletes in each event with the hopes of advancing to the Championships held in Eugene, Ore., from June 9-12.

Staib will compete in the javelin throw as she qualified for the NCAA East Prelims last week at the VCU Last Chance Meet, recording a personal-best mark of 45.38 meters (148' 10 1/2"). Staib has been dominant all year in the javelin as she has competed in six meets and has placed in the top-three in all of them.

She has won the event at three meets – Bill Webb Combined Events (March 19), Colonial Relays (April 2) and VCU Last Chance Meet (May 16). Prior to launching the furthest throw at the final meet of the season, Staib secured the bronze medal at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships with a mark of 43.94 meters.
