JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Shelby Staib wrapped up action for James Madison track & field at the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Round held at the University of North Florida on Thursday afternoon.

"This opportunity to compete with the best throwers in the East at NCAA Prelims is something I'll never forget," Staib said. "I was proud to represent JMU, and this meet inspired me to work even harder this off season to be back there next year. I am blessed for the endless support from our coaching staff and my family and friends!"

Staib competed in the first flight of the javelin throw and recorded a mark of 44.28 meters (145' 3") on her first throw. Her mark is her third-best throw of what was an outstanding freshman campaign.

Staib Season Accomplishments
- Won the javelin throw in three out of seven meets (Bill Webb Combined Events, Colonial Relays, VCU Last Chance Meet)
- Sits third all-time in program history in the javelin with a mark of 45.38 meters (148' 10 1/2")
- Claimed bronze at the CAA Championship
