JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Senior thrower
Shelby Staib wrapped up her career at James Madison on a windy Thursday afternoon at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships, finishing 35th overall in the javelin with a mark of 43.59m (143' – 0").

Staib leaves Harrisonburg with the program record in the javelin at 48.92m (160' – 6"), appearing in the NCAA East Preliminary Championships three times (2021-23).

The Allentown, Pa. native also earned podium finishes at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships (2021 – 3rd), Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships (2022 – 2nd), and Sun Belt Championships (2023 – 2nd) during her time as a Duke.

The top throw of the day came from Madison Wiltrout of North Carolina in the third flight at 56.37m (184' – 11"). Kate Joyce of Princeton rounded out the qualifiers with a hurl of 47.98m (157' – 5").
