BLACKSBURG, Va. – Highlighted by a personal best from freshman Tyrah Burrow, the James Madison track & field team wrapped up competition at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Saturday at Rector Field House.  Competing in the 400-meter dash, Burrow qualified for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Championships next month with a mark of 56.66 seconds. She finished third in the race and is the only JMU runner to have qualified for the event at the ECAC Championships. Burrow's previous best was set last weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, when she ran it in a time of 57.77 seconds. Senior Destiny Simmons also competed in the event, finishing seventh with a time of 58.41 seconds.  In the long jump, sophomore Ebony Owusu-Sampah finished second with a jump of 5.86 meters. Her mark beat the ECAC standard by .16 meters. It is the second jump this season that qualified Owusu-Sampah for the meet. Finishing right behind Owusu-Sampah was sophomore Kennedy King with a mark of 5.64 meters. Sophomore Nia Jones placed 19th with a jump of 4.93 meters.  The Dukes also had athletes compete in the 3,000-meter run and 4x400-meter relay on Saturday, as senior Rachel Hagen placed third in the 3,000 with a time of 10:34.80 while sophomore Meghan Malloy finished right behind her in fourth with a time of 10:48.96. In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of freshmen Charlie Bell and Madeleine McCarty, sophomore Abby Duncan and senior Jasmine Waddell finished seventh with a time of 4:03.73.  Following an off weekend, members of the squad will head to Boston for the ECAC Indoor Championships from Friday, March 6, to Sunday, March 8. A season ago, JMU finished 13th out of 46 teams at the ECAC Indoor Championships. Â
