CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Distance runners
Miranda Stanhope and
Katherine Lawson recorded top-five program times on day one of the Virginia Challenge on Friday night at Lannigan Field.
In the 5,000-meter invite, Stanhope crossed the finish line in 16:11.00, placing her No. 2 in program history, while Lawson followed closely behind in 16:21.88, good for fifth in the JMU record book. Former All-American
Mollie DeFrancesco owns the school record with a 16:03.97 effort set in 2002.
How It Happened
- Senior Erica Moolman won her third consecutive pole vault competition, clearing 3.79m (12-5.25), while freshman Madelyn Moles registered a mark of 3.44m (11-3.5) for sixth.
- Junior Holly Mpassy ran a season-best 54.77 in the 400-meter dash for third.
- Sophomore Kaia Putman rounded out the top five in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.86.
- In the steeplechase, sophomore Faithe Ketchum placed fifth (11:18.15), while freshman Kristin Giordano ran a personal-best 11:25.21 for sixth.
