BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Dukes scored in three events on the first day of competition at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship on Monday inside the Birmingham CrossPlex.

JMU tallied seven points and is currently tied for eighth with App State through five of 17 events. Texas State leads the way with 36 points, followed by Louisiana (33), Marshall (27), South Alabama (23), and Arkansas State (20).

The distance medley relay team of
Kristin Giordano (1200m),
Esther Saint-Germain (400m),
Alayna Gifford (800m), and
Carol-Anne Garrett (1600m) rounded out the top five with a time of 11:57.78.

In the field,
Bria Byrd placed seventh in the long jump with an effort of 5.81m (19-0.75) – the highest finish by a freshman in the event. Lastly,
Taylor Myers notched the final scoring spot in the 5,000 meters, producing a PR of 17:11.21 for eighth.

How It Happened
- Nina Dominique posted the fourth-fastest time in the 60-meter dash prelims, finishing in 7.48 to win the final heat.
- Later on, Dominique registered a personal-best clip of 23.88 for fifth in the 200-meter dash to qualify for Tuesday's final. The time places her second in program history behind a 23.85 performance by Meredith Willis in 2020.
- Elsewhere on the track, Bridget Koller won the third heat of the 800 meters in 2:14.01 to advance to tomorrow's title race.
