UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The James Madison track & field team picked up two more event wins to notch a second-place team finish at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track on Saturday.
Junior
Tyrah Burrow led the way for the Dukes by winning the 400-meter dash in 57.13 seconds. Burrow also ran the lead leg on JMU's 4x400 relay team that placed first with a time of 3:48.63. The mark qualified the team of Burrow, senior
Kennedy King, redshirt junior
De'Ana Forbes, and freshman
Alexys Taylor for the ECAC Championships, and was the third-fastest all-time at JMU.
JMU finished with 134 total points, trailing only the host Penn State's 161. Cornell (123), Liberty (93.5) and Florida Atlantic (48) rounded out the top five.
In addition to the 4x400 team, three distance runners secured their spot at the ECAC Championships. Senior
Carol Strock placed second in the 3,000-meter run in 9:43.70, which is now the seventh-best time in JMU history. Sophomore
Erica Jackson qualified in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.49, good for a fifth-place finish and the eighth-best all-time mark at JMU.
Finally, sophomore
Olivia Viparina qualified with a personal record time of 4:56.28 in the mile run, good for a fourth-place finish. Senior
Tessa Mundell, who had already qualified earlier in the season, placed third in the mile run with a time of 4:54.63.
Two other Dukes moved their names up the record book on Saturday, with Taylor recording the fourth-best 200-meter time in school history (24.86 seconds – fourth place finish) and sophomore

QUOTING COACH HICKS
"Throughout both days of the meet, we were all pleased with the outcome. We are continuing to improve as individuals and as a team. There were a lot of personal bests set on the track and in the fields, and in many cases if there weren't personal bests, we were close and consistent, which is a good place to be at this time of year."
UP NEXT
The Dukes will split their squad next weekend, competing at both the Liberty Elite Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. on Feb. 10-11 and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass. on Feb. 10.
