LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior
Tessa Mundell of James Madison track and field completed her prolific career with a 42nd-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Division I Track and Field East Preliminary inside the Kentucky Outdoor Track and Field Complex on Friday night.
"It's been my dream since I got to JMU to be able to come to this race and compete here," Mundell said. "To have that happen my senior year, there's pretty much no words to describe it. It's the culmination of everything I've ever worked for. It's more than I could have ever asked for to end my season and career as a Duke here."
The distance runner from Mohnton, Pa. completed the seven water jumps and 28 barriers in 10:48.41, good for 14th in her heat.
Mundell's personal best of 10:27.92, which she set at the ECAC Championships, stands as the fourth-best time in JMU history. She placed fourth at both the ECAC and Colonial Athletic Association steeplechases this season.
Not just a top track athlete, Mundell earned All-CAA honors in cross country all four seasons of her career.
